Enrolments taken from the Bundaberg District Affiliation Summary

Congratulations to St Luke's on winning the Percentage trophy.

Open Boys Basketball

The open boys absolutely rocked the basketball court with a 58 - 15
win over North.
After a late start and shortened halves, the boys warmed to their new coaches relaxed style and constant references to football plays to meld together to what look
likes a team to be reckoned with.
All boys played well with Gelsamino,
Finch and Haley solid in defence. Carr scored well setting Murchie up
for some outstanding 3 pointers.
The biggest surprise was our import
Jones - after a 5 min run down of the rules - Jones managed to carve up
the court with some elusive plays and astonishing shots making him
this weeks MVP.

Community Bike Ride

The City to Coast Community Bike Ride is on again this year on Sunday 19 May 2013. Mark the date in your diaries, dust the bikes off and get set for another great day.

Last year was our first involvement in this event as a school for quite some time and we took out the trophy for best participation from a High School.  This year it would be fantastic if we could win this trophy again, as well as taking out the Primary School section.  So round up the whole family; mum, dad, grandparents, even your neighbours and get them involved in the St Luke's team.

Entry is easy, simply go to http://www.madcycologists.org.au/ and follow the links to the Team's Registration.  Remember to enter either "St Luke's Primary" or "St Luke's Secondary" in the team name section.

Uniform for the day will be the St Luke's SLATE shirt for the students and anything creatively St Luke's for the parents.

Thanks

UPDATE ROWING TRAINING THIS SATURDAY 11 MAY

Rowing - new design for New St Luke's Zootie and Timeline

This is where we are up to with the New St Luke's Zootie.

Design:  Copy attached in link  -  Approved by Boat Committee (John, Ian, Peter, Pam) last year.
Logo:  School to forward Logo to Rowing Coordinator to send to Simply Oarsome for costing.
To be embroided  in front centre of zootie.
Orders:  One zootie will be ordered initially to make sure colours, logo are all OK.
Once it has been approved by the School and necessary
registration approval by Rowing Queensland, the parents will all be informed with the design and price and each parent is to order their zootie direct
from Simply Oarsome and pay for their own order.

As there is an approx 3 week turn around for each process, we expect it will be July before all orders/approvals are complete.  We would suggest any
rowers participating in CQ Championships in June wear the original zootie or Slate shirt for this regatta.
All new zooties can be approved, purchased
and ready for SQ in July and HOR in August.

Thanks
Boat Committee

St Luke's Rowing Training- UPDATE

St Luke's Rowers & Parents

Our coaches had a  meeting last night and decided we will start training for the upcoming Head of River.  The Burnett River is still not available for training and looks like will be another 3 weeks.
Our only way to train is at Bucca so the coaches have set the next 4 Saturdays as St Luke's Training Days. (May 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th)  I have attached our training schedule for the next month.  Please be aware that it will not be an easy task as we have 63 rowers this year and we have to transport all our boats to Bucca every Saturday.
This Saturday, each group is to meet with their coach at the allotted time and then each coach will work with their team.

Before any student can row on Saturday, fees & membership form must be given to Mrs Weston.  All students should have received the BRC Membership Form but if they haven't, contact either myself or Mrs Weston.
The fees this year for the HOR series is $150.  This consists of $135 for the Rowing Club to pay for the insurance and $15 to St Lukes for our Boat Usage Fund.  This year we have reduced our fee from $50 to $15 due to the short season.  $15 helps to put fuel into the cars of all our wonderful drivers who tow the trailer with all our boats and for fruit & powerade for the students. Any student that has already paid their fees direct to the club, please make sure you still pay the $15 to Mrs Weston.
The dates for the HOR are still only provisional and will be set definite once training has began on the River and all necessary clearances have been given.  At this stage the first Lead-up will be the 11th August and Head of River 25th August.
Please contact me if you have any queries.
Thanks
Pam Schmeider
Rowing Coordinator

Equestrian- State Interschool Eventing Championships..

> Attached is a photo of Melanie Hobi competing at the State Interschool Eventing Championships at Burpengary during the holidays.
> She is wearing the schools SLATE shirt and other safety equipment that she usually wears to compete. Melanie competed at Pre-Novice level and place 8th among a very tough field of competitors and unfavourable conditions.
> Congratulations Melanie. Fantastic achievement and great photo.

dates for head of river- update

At the BDSSS Rowing sub-committee meeting last Monday, there was more discussion about Head Of River dates.
From information tabled at the meeting it appears we are at least another three weeks away from being able to commence regular training on the Burnett River. This means that we will need to push the Head Of River dates back again in order to give our rowers sufficient time to safely prepare. The proposed dates now are August 11 for the lead-up Regatta and August 25 for Head Of River. The new dates need to be presented to the Bundaberg Rowing Club committee, which next meets on Monday May 13, before we can confirm that the venue and support staff are available.
