Head of the River 2013
Training for Head of River will begin early in Term 1. Coaches will be assigned their groups and they will contact you regarding training times and locations. These are mostly after school and our coaches will do their best to work in with everyone.
The Head of the River series is held over 3 Regattas. The first two are lead-up regattas where all rowers row in a variety of events. These are 'practice' regattas and give our new rowers the experience to row in a regatta. In the final Regatta, all schools can nominate 2 crews per event per age (i.e. single, doubles & quads). At this stage, no dates have been set yet by BDSSS but the lead ups are usually held March/April and the Final is always in May.
Cost: The cost for the Head of the River Series which runs from February to May is $180*.
(This includes $60 school boat maintenance levy. The balance is paid to the Bundaberg Rowing Club which includes insurance cover for all our rowers.)
(*This is based on 2012 Membership Fees from Bundaberg Rowing Club & maybe subject to change)
Forms: Forms are required to be filled in and signed and returned to Mrs Carolyn Weston with full $180 payment prior to commencement of training (This is to ensure our rowers have their insurance cover before going on the water). These forms will be given to students at the start of Term 1:
· Bundaberg District Secondary School Sport Form
· Bundaberg Rowing Club Membership Form
· Photo Permission Form
And for your information: St Luke's Rowing Code of Conduct.
Regattas take a lot of hard work and we are very thankful to the Bundaberg Rowing Club for their great facility.
To make work easier for everyone, we ask that we all help in a small way to make Regattas enjoyable for everyone. This maybe helping in the canteen (all schools are rostered to do a session), help with boat loading & unloading, dads helping the coaches with rigging boats and helping our rowers on & off the water.
Rowing is a great sport and we are very fortunate to have such great equipment at our school and to have a great venue at Bucca.
School Rowing Championships
After Head of the River, rowers have the opportunity to continue rowing in both School & Club Regattas if they wish. This requires paying an extra $145* to the Bundaberg Rowing Club to extend your membership until 31st December. There are 3 School Regattas that are:
Central Qld Regional Championships - June - Rockhampton
South Qld Regional Championships - July - Kawana (Sunshine Coast)
Qld School Championships - September - Bucca
Dates & further information on these Regattas will be given by our Coaches after the Head of the River Series is finished.
