Recently two of our St Luke's students travelled to Sydney to compete in an extremely prestigious event. After speaking with Sabina Murchie and Elizabeth Newell I thought it best to let them explain their experience and achievements.
Under the guidance of our coach Mr Pressler, we competed at the Sydney International Regatta Centre from the 14th to 18th March in Penrith. The competition was the Sydney International Rowing Regatta. We competed in the under 17 women's single scull and the under 17 women's double scull. In the single events we progressed from the heats into the repechage. In the double skull, in order to make the semi-final we needed to come in the top 2 in the repechage. We placed 1st and proceeded to the Semi-finals where we came 7th.
These two girls have now competed at a level which most people never will. To compete on a National stage is one thing but to finish seventh in a semi-final together is something else. A world of congratulations goes to both of the girls and we are endlessly proud to have such athletes in our school community. Good luck with all of your future endeavours Sabina and Elizabeth.
