On Sunday the 14 June, rowers took to the
water for the annual Bundaberg Radiology Head of the River regatta. They had
been training very hard, up to 6 times a week on and off the water leading up
to the regatta. There was much competition between all 6 schools with the point
tally even between St Luke’s and rivals Shalom going into the last few races of
the day. There were many individual trophies won by students from St Luke’s
including the Year 10 girls’ and boys’ singles as well as the Year 12 girls and
boys singles.
The medal tallies were as follows:
21 Golds
17 Silvers
15 Bronze
However, without the rowers who entered the races for the
extra point, we would have not had a chance of winning the overall trophies:
the percentage points trophy and overall points trophy.
This was a special year for St Luke’s as we had won the
overall points trophy two years in a row and were looking to make it a third.
St Luke’s comfortably won the percentage points trophy and the overall points
trophy, just nine points separating us and Shalom. St Luke’s is now on a three
year winning streak which is an amazing achievement for a smaller school such
as St Luke’s.
All St Luke's rowers should be commended for their
outstanding commitment and performances both individually and as a team throughout
the day. Another thankyou goes out to all coaches and parents who gave up their
time to coach students and transport boats to and from the courses.
Thanks to Mr Ian Grotherr, Mr John Pressler, and all our Coaches, Mr Pike, Mrs Hellmuth Mrs Weston and Mr Robinson for all their help.
