Rowing - from Mr Parsons

Dear Rowing Families
A Lamington Drive has been organised to raise funds for St Luke's Rowing in Term 3. Orders will be finalised in the second last week of the term, with Lamingtons being available for collection in the first couple of days of Term 4. This will be perfect timing for school lunches in what is one of the busiest terms of the year. The information will be distributed via the fortnightly newsletter so that it is available for all St Luke's families in the hope that all families may collect a number of orders from friends and work colleagues. They will then be able to place their orders online and pay for them in a process similar to how the Cocktail Evening tickets were sold. This will make it easy for everyone involved and minimise the paper trail.
The Lamingtons will be sold at $8.50/pack of 6 (they retail at $9.00 at the Bundy Bakehouse). We would ask all rowing families to support this raffle and promote it at any opportunity. There will be an order form available to download from the school newsletter (similar to the attached) so that families can keep track of their orders for distribution.
On another note, we thought it would be a great idea to have a 'Thank You' Sausage Sizzle for all our coaches after Head of River. Our coaches are all volunteers, and without them, our rowing program wouldn't exist. It is also a wonderful opportunity to get together as some families may not 'row on'.  Hopefully we will also be celebrating the victory of winning our 4th HOR in a row! We have been granted permission by the school to hold this Sausage Sizzle on Friday, June 10 from 3.30 – 4.30pm in the MPC after the Athletics Carnival. An invitation will be sent to all coaches. Please put this date in your calendar, and if at all possible, join us for a friendly gathering in appreciation of our wonderful coaches.
For catering purposes, we would appreciate you letting me know by Wednesday, June 8 how many family members will be able to attend.
Dates of upcoming school regattas are(http://www.rowingqld.asn.au/#!regatta-calendar-2016/w62f3):
Additionally these are the dates of Regatta's post HOR. It would be great to see some of our rowers row on and gain more competition experience. The bonus is that the Central Schools Regatta is here in Bundaberg. I'm not exactly sure of the nomination process for this yet but if you let me know if your child is keen to row on I will get the necessary information together.
It is important for rowers to discuss with coaches if the coach intends to coach them on to more regatta's this year.  If not we will need to make alternate arrangements.
Once again thanks very much to all the parents that have been involved with rowing for a number of years who pass important information onto me.

FRIDAY RUGBY LEAGUE - VENUE CHANGED TO ACROSS THE WAVES

We have had to change venues for Fridays Small School Rugby League Carnival. It will now be held at Across the Waves Sporting Fields. We still have 3 fields so nothing else changes. I have included version 2 of the draw to accommodate the withdrawal of Burnett College who are unable to attend.
Playing at ATW will mean that access to food virtually NIL due to its location. So please ask players to BYO or alternatively organise and order pizza deliveries prior to the day if possible. I expect 200 players and staff on the day so ordering on the day may involve a considerable wait.
If you have any further questions about Friday please email me ASAP
I wish all teams a safe travel and look forward to seeing you all on Friday.
Regards

Congratulations SLAS Table Tennis students and teams...Mr Barrett

Congratulations
Table Tennis went really well...Hayden Green and Kobe Pozzan took out the U15 Boys event after defeating Shalom (two state players) in a very tight final. Came down to the doubles as the decider. Shaina and Tahnee Green took out the Open Girls event, again defeating Shalom in the final. Both teams now eligible to progress to State Final.

Our less experienced players all played really well and were certainly competitive in most of their matches. Big event, comprising 39 teams from around Bundaberg and also from Rockhampton

4 Tips To Recover From Your Big Game...From Old Saint - Ethan Hyde

4 Tips To Recover From Your Big Game
We have all experienced the pain that follows after a big sporting event. Sore legs, tight muscles, low energy, the list goes on.
Although delay onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and fatigue will always be there, we can do some simple tasks to reduce the effects.
1. Get enough sleep before and after the event. When your body is asleep, it is in recovery mode. Positive hormones are being shuttled around your body and if you are deprived of sleep, these hormones can't work as well as they should. Aim for anywhere upwards of 8 hours per night.
2. Fuel your body. During your event is not the time to be hungry or worrying about fat loss. Our goal is simple. Maximum performance. To perform at our best, consume a protein and carbohydrate drink during your match. This provides fuel to allow the body to focus on performing rather than breaking energy stores and rebuilding itself.
3. Warm ups can be boring but they are important. If your warm up consists of a short jog followed by some basic stretches, then it's going to be boring and ineffective. Your warm up should be based around what you are doing. If you are swimming, then loosening up your shoulders and back should be a priority. Performing mobility drills will prime your muscles, joints, and central nervous system for what's to come instead of simply warming the bodies temperature.
4. Cool down. This is great time to perform your static stretches and relax the heart rate. Although this isn't too exciting and you are tired, this will directly affect your next performance. Often times, the people who skip stretching are the ones who get injured or don't place well. Ensure you keep a healthy range of motion by stretching out your shoulders, hips, and back. A healthy range of motion provides a better working area for the joints and muscles.

Qld Schools Table Tennis Championship - Bundaberg

Hi
Attached is the program and draws for next Saturday's tournament and a sample scoresheet.
Please ensure your players know the rules for playing doubles, especially serving from right hand court of server  to right hand court of receiver, and that partners must take turns hitting the ball during rallies. Hopefully there will be sufficient volunteers / team managers / other players who will be available to umpire the doubles matches and some singles matches if your players are not very experienced.
Please ask your teams to arrive at the Bundaberg Table Tennis Centre (Kendalls Rd, opposite the airport) by at least 8.45 a.m. so we are able to start on time as each team match is scheduled for only 45 minutes. If you are aware of any problems with the draws or the availability of any players, please contact me as soon as possible.
Thank you for your support of this tournament and we look forward to welcoming your players and supporters on Saturday morning
Best regards
