BDSSS Athletics Day 1 - Monday.

Day 1-

What a fabulous first day at the Bundaberg District Athletics Carnival! Each of the students have put in their best efforts, achieving some excellent results. A special mention goes to our three Year 12 students, Samantha Hill, Mitchell Clayton and Jarrod Wessel who led the way with enthusiasm, determination and supportive nature, competing not only in their selected events, but also filling in for the other Year 12 students who withdrew from the competition.

In the 1500m, one of the highlights was watching Charles Liebenberg and James Thomas blitzing the field side by side throughout the race, with James striding away in the final 20m to win. Hamish Corpe, Jaymee Ericson, Jarrod Wessel, Kate Crook, Jordan Smith and Ellen Thomas also placed in their 1500m events.

On the field, students jumped and threw admirably, many of whom improved on their personal bests. Congratulations to Jarrason Purcell who competed in the 16 years Triple jump and came 2nd.

In the 100m, 15 of the students reached the finals. There were some admirable performances in very tight races. In the 13 years, Marianna Konopka won her final. For the Opens, Samantha Hill placed 3rd and Mitchell Clayton dominated his event to win.

It has been wonderful to manage such a delightful group of students who have tried their best, but also been at the events, cheering on and supporting other St Luke's students. I am looking forward to another fantastic day.
